Since I last posted Ashi has begun work on the charm bracelet project. This is a very modified banners project (see the original briefs at the begining of the blog). Ashi is a jeweler who is involved in the next exhibition at the Hub - 'Here and There'. She is working with various groups of people who will each make a charm. These will decorate a 'tree' in the shop leading up to christmas. Then using these charms as inspiration she will make a silver wearable charm bracelet as a gift for the Hub. Ashi has started work... Hi Ben! Sorry for the delay. I am still waiting to confirm dates for some of groups. So far as follows 16/10/03 - reflections 21/10/03 - grinter house 23/10/03 - reflections 28/10/03 - grinter house 2/11/03 - sleaford land art grp 16/11/03 - open session 23/11/03 - open session (-to confirm dates; HUB staff, nocton, school teachers, civic trust, leisure centre and the youth grp.) I have taken the first group, and I think it went well. Need to speak to Nick tomorrow. I hope this is all you wanted, okay? If not, shout me! Best wishes Ashi Peter Fraser has delivered some great photos, some particularly nice ones of the opening, of all the craft grandes dames and their Miu Miu shoes. He is just back from Liverpool and photographing Electric Wig in their natural habitat. I am meeting up with him next Wednesday to go through the contacts. We want to work up a proposal for a book of his images of the Hub and reckon we need to get on with that or everyone will lose interest. Boehm and Lang have had a feasible quote for building their mobile for outside the building which is great. Time is trickling away however and we need to get on with firming up the proposal for planning permission or that February deadline will become less feasible! Brigid and I are working on the publicity for our project in Manchester so feel free to check out www.exploreexpandexchange.net Wednesday, October 15, 2003
So...It has all happened since my last post. The Hub is now officially open as is the exhibition 'What is craft?'. Well there wasn't any champagne to wet the babies forehead. Cups of tea sandwiches and cakes which was nice but... I am sure Princess Anne would have liked a glass. The exhibtion looks great. A very interesting selection of work nicely put together. I am posting pics of the opening and from a meeting with Andreas and Kathrin. Monday, October 06, 2003
Everything is coming to a head ready for the grand and royal opening tomorrow. Brigid went up to Sleaford on Wednesday 1st to oversee installations on that day. Tracey's plaque looks beautiful. I will post a pic on Wednesday. Electric wig delivered their benches which are superb bar a bit of tidying up. I was pleasantly surprised to see how tiny the kids one is. It is very cute. Well done guys an excellent job! I was up on Friday with Sam bolting together the commissions centre. Tiny tiny little bolts M3 and thousands of them. It was looking great when I left at 8pm but still incomplete. I think it will be knockout tomorrow for the opening. Sam will be flying over Sleaford on his way to Japan so wont be at the opening. Peter Fraser was busy taking photos over 300 of them and will be taking more at the opening. I love champagne. I hope its good! Monday, September 29, 2003
Dear Caroline Just to let you know the programme for this week.... Brigid and Tracey are coming up on 1st October arriving about 10.30-11am. Tracey will fit the panel with someone that Phil Rollin has arranged. She would very much like to discuss the fitting with the fitter before he starts work. Electric Wig will arrive at about 4pm on 1st October. They will need space to deliver the benches into and they need to be checked and signed for. The materials for Sam's Box will arrive on Thursday 2nd. He will arrive around 11.30am and put the furniture together. I will come up on 3rd and erect the box with Sam. We will need to be able to get in to the space for the box and have some room for maneuver, around about. I am meeting with Andreas and Katherin on Monday 6th October to talk through the model of their work. Hope all well Ben Thursday, September 25, 2003
As you can see I can now post pictures. I needed to do some upgrading of the site. Sorry for the delay. Everyone is getting ready to deliver their work next week. I am starving and will have to have something to eat before I write more. Brigid, Nick and Sam Buxton on the site of the commissions centre in the shop. Through the glass is the cafe. Meeting in North Kesteven District Council Offices. This photo shows a particularly creative moment. This is the gallery space. It has MDF walls which are nicely detailed but might actually be a pain in the end. They have lines all over them, which is a neat solution to the problem of filling the gaps between the boards. They might also encourage the use of mirror plates which could be real cheesy when there are such nice ways of sticking things on walls. |
